Indiana Jones Action Figure: Indiana Jones
In one of the most famous action sequences of the renowned Indiana Jones films, Indiana Jones is set upon by a group of Egyptian killers, and defeats them handily using his fists and whip – and, in one case, a pistol bullet fired at point-blank range into a swordsman (a move used in the film, according to some sources, because Harrison Ford was feeling too sick to carry out the combat sequence that was supposed to occur). Thus, the vigorous archaeologist used his whip to defeat a number of enemies at once – adding to the iconic glamour of the Indiana Jones bullwhip.
The Indiana Jones Action Figure, produced by Hasbro, is based on this dramatic moment in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and features a whip arm which actually “cracks” the figure’s whip. This action figure is 3.75” tall, and shows Indy as he appears in Cairo marketplace scene, lacking his jacket and standing in his signature fedora and shirtsleeves. The hat on this figure is not removable, but it is depicted correctly for its appearance in the film and the details of this figure are mostly accurate, unlike some of the others in the series.
The Action Figure has ten points of articulation, some of them double-articulated (such as one shoulder and both elbows). A bullwhip is in the figure’s right hand, and by squeezing its legs together, you can make it “crack” the whip in the familiar Indiana Jones fashion. This is a great feature for any kid who is a fan of the Indiana Jones movies, and makes an interesting addition to an adult’s collection as well. The figure also comes with a “relic” in a paper “crate” so that the exact relic included will be a surprise to the purchaser. The relics are to scale with one another but not necessarily with the figures themselves, although this is a relatively small detail.
It should be noted that the quality of the paint job varies immensely from figure to figure, especially with regard to the facial features. If possible, you should inspect the action figure before buying it in order to get one with a well-painted face, rather than the goggling, oversized eyes which appear on some of the Raiders of the Lost Ark series.
This action figure is another example of how the use of a bullwhip as weapon and tool by Indiana Jones has gripped the imagination of the movie-going public, and how you can add yet another example of the whip-cracking archaeologist to your collection – on a miniature scale this time.
