Indiana Jones Child’s Hat and Whip

One of the iconic heroes of 20th-century cinema is the whip-wielding archaeologist Indiana Jones. As one of the many famous roles of the actor Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones became as well known as Han Solo, and is popular among both general filmgoers and many children whose imagination has been sparked by the exotic adventures of the cinematic explorer and adventurer.

Fortunately for these youthful fans of the slouch-hatted, whip-cracking, wisecracking Jones, a number of firms have started producing hats and whips to serve as Halloween costumes and general play items for creating their own imaginary adventures. One such set of items are the Indiana Jones Child’s Hat and Whip Set, made by Rubies Costume Company. Although these items are quite low-price, their quality is higher than would be generally expected for such objects, and they will give at least a month or two – and hopefully much longer – of fun to young emulators of the most famous archaeologist of film.

The hat is made out of actual felt – not to the same standards as Indiana Jones’ actual hat would be, of course, but of much better quality than some plastic costume hats. The hat can survive whatever a cloth hat can withstand – it can be cut, burnt, squashed, and so on, but it will not fall apart immediately and will “wear” correctly since it can stretch and deform slightly to fit the user’s head (unlike plastic hats, which do not easily change shape).  The hat may be a bit small for older children, however.

The whip is made out of a braided foam material – it is as safe as any whip-like object can be, and looks good, although it obviously cannot be cracked like a real whip can. The whip can potentially cause minor injuries, like any other object – if the tip is flicked into an eye, it will probably cause pain for example. However, the foam is soft enough so that general blows will not hurt, and kids can play safely with the whips with perhaps a whiff of adult supervision. Both the whip and the hat are brown.

The set’s recommended age range is 4 to 13 years, but again, it should be noted that the hat may not fit children at the upper end of this range unless they are exceptionally small. An adult hat might be needed for larger kids, although the whip would still make a good toy and Halloween costume accessory. The set is an officially-licensed Indiana Jones accessory, so you do not need to worry about paying for a copyright-violating item. Buying this surprisingly well-made set of hat and whip will be sure to please your Indiana Jones fan children and give them countless hours of fun and adventure.
